I'm gratefulfor so many things this October that it's hard to know where to start.
The Day of the Dead exhibit at the Guardino Gallery brought a smile to my face every time I walked past.
Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. It has little to do with trick-or-treat, though when I was young, I enjoyed the freedom of dressing up in a costume, walking up to any stranger's home, ringing the doorbell, and extorting candy out of them with the magic phrase "Trick-or-treat."
What a wonderful social contract.
Halloween is the only holiday where we give a nod to death.
I am never more aware of my certain but unpredictable demise than when I walk among the autumn leaves.
The other day, I came across this anonymous quote: "The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let the dead things go."
The bright colors of the autumn leaves are such a lovely way to remind us to leave our past behind and be grateful for the precious lives we have.
